18. Rustin needs our help! This sweet senior Beagle was recently rescued from a research facility

where he spent his entire life confined to a cage being poked and prodded for painful testing.

Since Rustin’s rescue, it has been revealed that this senior dog has several medical issues that will follow him for the rest of his life, including blood clots, a grade 3 heart murmur, teeth and prostate infections, and weak kidneys. His lifelong malnourishment adds an extra layer of complexity as we strive to help him gain a healthy weight.

In the United States, tens of thousands of beagles are inhumanely used for research purposes. Laboratories exploit beagles’ mild temperament, making them one of the most commonly tested breeds due to their ease of handling. Beagles are involved in various types of experiments, including pharmaceutical testing, toxicity testing, and medical research. They undergo awful testing such as force-feeding, inhalation studies, and other invasive experiments. The pain and suffering that Rustin and many others like him endure in a lifetime is truly heartbreaking.

Rustin’s case continues to unfold with more medical issues, making it impossible to predict the full extent of his future care needs.
